Batch 7 (September 7-9, 2012)

Last September 7-9, 2012, 28 exceptional student-leaders from all across the country were selected to participate in the seventh run of the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey held in De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, Cavite.

The NCA Leadership Journey aims to build the nucleus of a new generation of leaders that are grounded on their spirituality who can eventually transform Philippine society. Using Ninoy and Cory Aquino as role models, the program seeks to reintroduce spirituality as a major foundation for Filipino leadership. Harnessing their innate values systems, the participants take part in a process of self-reflection that will ultimately lead to self-transformation and self-commitment for others and country.

Below are reflections written by NCA Leadership Journey Batch 7 graduates about the experiences and insights they gained from the program.

The program really set its mark in achieving its goal of forming youth leaders.  It did nurture us, help us set our identity, and help an individual who are in the process of self-transformation to develop a community empowering leaders.  I am very thankful because I am closer to God and made me release the pain I’m encountering at the moment.

At the start of the program, I said that my journey is at the edge of the Marikina fault line.  Anytime, I might fall.  After the program, I feel exactly the opposite for there is God who faithfully loves us, who never doubted even though we refused to love Him.

I learned a lot from the program, actually, a lot more than what I expected.  This program enlightened me on how I look at life.  It made me feel loved by the people who are close in my heart.

This experience will always be in my heart and I will cherish it forever <3.<3.<3.   <<BATCH 7 ROCKS>>! !  J))

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey was genuinely an amazing blessing to me. I’m grateful for this remarkable and continuing journey.  It surprisingly helped me to answer most of my questions at that time.  As they say, God catches us by surprise.  It aided me to reexamine myself and my relationships especially with God.

I gained a lot of insights, experiences, wisdom, and memories from this Journey that I’ll treasure, but the most striking component for me is that The Call to Leadership, justly the Call to Love, never disappears.  It’s not easy, but it is not impossible.

I realize that the best reason that I should love is not to gain the love of God but because He has already loved me.  This Journey equipped me with a shield in my own journey in life.  Truly, this Journey fired up my vision of keep moving forward with a smile whatever it takes, plus to live loved.

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey is the enhancement of the potentials of the Filipino youth leaders. It provides an extensive self-reflection that will put into motion the eagerness of these young people to serve and love the nation. This has been a great milestone of my life. It awakened my spirit and the spirit of my co-ambassadors.

It is the best saga of my existence I ever had that has influenced my whole being as a leader and as a person of God because the stimulus of the program is indeed eternal. It has touched my heart and allowed me to open up and share my life. The Journey planted a seed in me; a seed of love that has the responsibility of spreading love that I’ve felt and will feel forever.

My realization to this saga is that my disability is a blessing in disguise. It is a gift from up above. I’ve chosen not to get over with the memories of this expedition because I am committed to Deity and to my country as my journey continue for the rest of my life.

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey is a very unique program in a way that it is the only program I’ve ever attended to which gives much importance to Leadership as a Call to Love. It is a journey that gives value to our call to express and to respond to God’s love through selfless service.

I once again experienced God’s tremendous love for me and as this love overflows in my heart and in my soul, I am very excited to serve other people for His greater glory!

Love alone can move anyone or even everyone.

We were deeply touched by God’s love through the NCALJ program and its people. It honestly changed me personally, my perspective towards life, family, responsibilities toward the community and most of all, of God. This leadership journey is one of a kind; you’ll learn the most essential thing with regards to being a shepherd of the lives of others.

I was enlightened. I am now part of a family that belongs to a hopeful community.

Being part of the NCA Leadership Journey Batch 7 is a grateful experience for me. It’s really different from the usual leadership camps that students, like me, usually attend to. The Journey will help you understand yourself and the true desires of your heart – your calling.

This once in a lifetime experience is indeed a memorable one. You’ll have a chance to meet other people who use their faith in God as source of strength, courage, determination and persistence. This leadership retreat will allow you to deepen your relationship with God, and solidify the true essence of leadership – which is the call to Love.

I learned that God is good all the time, and He loves us first, that we need to share this love to other people. God will use other people to let you feel how much he loves you: your family, relatives, loved ones, teachers, and even strangers.

I also learned that however different we, participants, are in terms of our background; we still accept one another and treat ourselves as members of a family. With open hearts and minds, we listened to each life stories being shared by every one of us – the speakers, facilitators and participants. I realized how awesome God works in our lives. In our successes and challenges (loops, bumps, obstacles or whatever you want it to be called), He is with us in every moment of our lives.

Thank you so much NCALJ for welcoming me to your family!

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey is the most remarkable program I’ve ever joined. This program taught us to love and trust the Lord as He first loved us. Also, the program was very uplifting and awakening in such a way that the people were used by the Lord to challenge us and to help us look in the other perspective of life. More than that, this program instilled in our minds and hearts to love back, because a call to leadership is a call to love.

I’ve learned in this program that we are loved by the Lord first, even if we don’t deserve it. He loved us just the way we are. I will never forget to be thankful and grateful to Him for the blessings and trials that He has given. I will take His plans for me as a challenge because I believe that His will may sometimes be not pleasant in out eyes but it is indeed perfect.

People may think that this program is just like the other leadership seminars, where participants are given concepts to learn about on how to lead other people and become a good leader. But in the NCA Leadership Journey, it is not like that.  They put focus on the most important aspect of a good leader, which is the self.

The program taught us something that leadership manuals or different trainings about leadership cannot give – a clear mind. We have cleared our mind about ourselves, helped us decide to the things we confused about, set our goals and purpose, but most of all, the program bring back the presence of God into our consciousness.

For three days, we have gone through a transformation making us to become more stable and aware citizens that can influence others and move towards God-given direction, to achieve a more long lasting success rather than meaningless achievements.

Thank you to Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey for allowing me to revive myself and made me realize the things I’ve never realized before. I hope that you continue on touching other people’s lives, not only those student leaders, but also those who need to be rejuvenated with God’s love.

“Have faith in God, and we’ll never be harmed, for God has been faithful to us from the start.”

Sometimes we ask ourselves why certain things happen in our lives and we thought that it is not necessary for us to experience it.  We even look for someone to blame if we are facing a difficult time and the first person we denunciate is God. We often accuse Him that He doesn’t love us or He already forgot about us.

But have we ever asked ourselves, the same questions we had for Him? What if we were the ones who forgot about Him? We might be too busy with our own lives forgetting about the good things we have, which made us to only see what is wrong.

We have trusted and believed that God loves us so much, we only expect that he will only give us the best, just the way we want it. These things are just few of what I have realized in NCALJ, which serves as a reminder of what I have forgotten because of the business of the world around me.

I remember what Ms. Amistad, my adviser, said, “Life is a two way traffic honey, there are always two opposite direction that intersects each other.  A traffic jam will never be caused by only one lane because it will not get jammed if the other lane doesn’t go on a counter flow”.

I realize that it was me who lost time with God due to many things I need to accomplish.  I forgot to appreciate and give thanks to the things I have.

I felt very embarrassed to God. In all of the things that I’ve done, yet, He still gave me a surprise. I learned so much not only from the program but from all the people I’ve met, which gave me another point to ponder that, “In God’s plan, everything has its purpose, even those small things and in the right timing, all will be executed for the benefit of everyone, just stay in faith”.

Who says you need them when you have God and love in all aspects of your life? Experience being loved and share love with the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey. Witness how different people of different walks of life stood up in the challenges of life and respond to the call of love and respond to the call of being a leader of their own way and respond to the call of God.

Being in the Journey was one of the best things that happened to my life as it flipped my perspective to 360 degrees, as it mended my broken heart and as it slapped the truth.  All I have to do was to open my eyes to see the truth behind my idealistic thoughts about my environment and myself.

The experience was really life changing.  This place and these people would be my sanctuary, a memory, which will last F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey was one of the most memorable experiences that I ever had. From being cut from the outside world and gather all my focus to myself and my creator was one thing that I haven’t done as far as I remember.

The Journey made me realize a lot of lessons in life. It taught me that life should be lived with a purpose and that purpose is to love since we are created by the source of love.  Through this expression, I realize that by loving, it will overflow as an action of goodness to my fellowmen. True achievement will not come from the pleasure of material things that we will be able to acquire but rather, it will come from the feeling that we are leaving the world a better place since we did something to uplift the lives of our fellow human beings.
