The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) and Ninoy & Cory Aquino Center for Leadership (NCACL) call for applications from Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan Students to join the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey (Batch 13) on November 14-16, 2014.
“We want to have the Journey in CDO because we want to open this life-changing experience to young leaders who will go to the frontiers and re-build the future of Mindanao,” shares Journey Companion Batch 6 Princess Ubay-Ubay from Cagayan de Oro City (CDO). Also a former President of Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan’s (XU-AdC) Central Student Government, Princess continues, “We want the youth to affirm within themselves that Mindanao needs their heroic leadership – and that’s something that the [Leadership] Journey can give”. Princess joined the NCA Leadership Journey back in June 2012 together with other 27 individuals coming from all parts of the country. After 2 years of becoming part of the Journey Community, Princess would want to share the experience to her fellow students.
This year, NCAF and NCACL partner with the Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan to bring the NCA Leadership Journey to the youth of Northern Mindanao. NCAF President and Executive Director Rafael C. Lopa imparts, “At last, the NCA Leadership Journey will finally take place in CDO”. He further adds, “We are even happier that a Journey Companion will actually make the program happen. We are glad to know how Princess would want to share the Leadership Journey experience to her fellow XU-AdC students.” Mr. Lopa hopes that young people from the University are ready to respond to the invitation of service and love.
Also from XU-AdC, Ernesto “Tonton” Neri, Journey Companion Batch 2, recalls how his Leadership Journey experience impacted his life: “It made me see that above all, leadership is not a mere skill or science but an expression of a deeply seated sense of faith in God.” As the current Oro Youth Development Council Chairperson, his Leadership Journey “helped clarify to a certain degree the source and motivation of my drive to lead”. Tonton, now a 4th year law school student in XU-AdC, encourages his fellow schoolmates to apply in the Program because “it provides you to see and understand your leadership journey in a much deeper, spiritual dimension. It is an extraordinary experience which will truly strengthen your resolve to lead with faith and justice”.
Using Ninoy and Cory Aquino as role models, the program seeks to reintroduce spirituality as a major foundation for Filipino leadership. Harnessing their innate values systems, the participants take part in a process of self-reflection that will ultimately lead to self-transformation and self-commitment for others and country.
Together with program partners, Cebu Pacific Air and White Knight Hotel Intramuros, the program invites the youth leaders to undergo a 3-day transformative experience and be living witnesses of leadership. It is the hope of the Foundation that the young persons will be moved to commit to a life of service and mission through effective and impactful community work. The objectives of the program are:
- To reintroduce models of leadership based from the lives of Ninoy and Cory Aquino
- To realize that spirituality, faith and love are values that anchor one’s life
- To build communal experiences in spirituality with other youth leaders
- To respond to a life of love through the call for action
- To appreciate a life of sacrifice that is deeply rooted in one’s faith
The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey is open to all Filipino citizens studying in Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, 18 – 21 yrs. old, and at least a college sophomore (or the equivalent) at the time of the application period.

Based from the application process, thirty (30) individuals will be selected to participate in the program. A Registration Fee of Php 500.00, inclusive of meals, accommodations, and transportation will be collected by the XU-Central Student Government from the qualified participants upon registration on November 14, 2014.
