28 Youth Leaders Selected for the 12th Batch of the NCA Leadership Journey

The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) and the De La Salle University – Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) are proud to announce the twelfth batch of participants to the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey this coming April 25-27, 2014.

Inspired by the lives of the beloved Aquino couple, the Ninoy & Cory Aquino (NCA) Leadership Journey Program aims to reintroduce spirituality as a major foundation of Filipino leadership. Developing their innate values systems, the participants take part in a process of self-reflection which, it is hoped, would ultimately lead to commitment for others and country. Since its beginning in November 2010, the NCA Leadership Journey has already provided a unique and life-changing experience to 11 batches of young people nationwide.

“After almost four years of the Program, the incoming batch for college students signifies the growing community of young leaders in Luzon, particularly in the CALABARZON region”, NCAF President and Executive Director Rafael C. Lopa shares.

After a rigorous screening process, the following participants were carefully selected for the April 2014 batch of the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey:

Mr. Lopa expresses his gratitude to DLSU-D for partnering again with the Foundation for the Leadership Journey. “We are happy to have partnered with DLSU-D, for the second time, in conducting the Program on a regional scale. We are thankful to DLSU-D for sharing the same vision with us, of forming young leaders committed to a life of service for God and country”.

Together with program partners, Cebu Pacific Air, the Official Air Carrier, and White Knight Hotel Intramuros, the Official Manila Residence, the Program invites the youth leaders to undergo the three-day leadership retreat and be living witnesses of leadership. The Foundation hopes that the “Journey Companions” will be moved to commit to a life of mission through effective and impactful community work.

Facilitators of the program are Mr. Lopa, Department of Education Undersecretary Rizalino Rivera, and NCAF Consultant for Youth Engagements and Formation John Paulo “Jampao” Reyes. Past speakers of the program were Born to Be a Hero author Coach Pia Nazareno-Acevedo, Public School Teacher Sabrina Ongkiko, and the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS) Awardee SPO1 Edgardo Figuracion among others.

Batch 12 of the NCA Leadership Journey is open to all Filipino citizens, 18-21 years old, a resident of CALABARZON region, and at least a college sophomore (or the equivalent) at the time of the application period.

Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF)

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation traces its roots to the Benigno S. Aquino, Jr. Foundation (BSAF), established by the late Senator’s widow in November 1983 to perpetuate his legacy.  BSAF became her vehicle for continuing to engage non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and people’s organizations (POs) that played a key role in empowering communities and reviving democratic institutions alongside her administration.

On August 21, 2008, BSAF launched the iamninoy campaign with the help of creative and merchandise partners to introduce Ninoy Aquino to new generations of Filipinos as a fitting commemoration of his 25th death anniversary. Using the senator’s iconic eyeglasses as its visual signature, the campaign invited young Filipinos to look at society “through Ninoy’s eyes” and to surface the selfless hero inside them.

Today, NCAF seeks to build on the legacy of Ninoy and Cory by supporting activities that embody the spirit of People Power as a strong and positive force for social change in a robust democracy.

Ninoy & Cory Aquino Center for Leadership (NCACL)

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Center for Leadership is an institution established with the help of Drs. Rolando and Rosalinda Hortaleza of Splash Corporation.
