My Journey Goes On brings hope to La Bella Zamboanga

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU), in partnership with the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), held a prayer concert featuring songs from “My Journey Goes On, Songs and Reflections from the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey”, last November 30, 2013 at the ADZU’s Multi-purpose Covered Courts.

A year after the launch of the My Journey Goes On, Songs and Reflections from the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, NCAF continues to bring inspiration to young people through the gift of music.

Long-time NCAF partner, Cebu Pacific Air flew Mr. Rafael C. Lopa, President and Executive Director of NCAF and the NCAF music ministry to Zamboanga. In Mr Lopa’s welcoming message, he expressed his love for Zamboanga City, “With how many runs of [the] Journey Leadership Program we conducted here, Zamboanga City is already very close to our hearts.” “This prayer concert”, Mr. Lopa continues, “is our way of bringing hope to the Zamboangeños”. Fr. Karel San Juan, S.J., the newly installed University President of ADZU, hoped that the concert would be able to touch hearts and lead the audience in praying for the country.

The NCAF Music Ministry, together with Where’s the Sheep?, sung inspirational songs to almost 800 high school and some college students. Student volunteer Ma. Melanna Ocampo thanked the two singing groups, “Thank you for coming here in ADZU despite the City’s situation. Two thumbs up in your ability to motivate and inspire young people like me through your songs”. Ms. Ruth Guerrero of the Social Action Office of ADZU High School Department and co-organizer of the Prayer Concert also expressed her gratitude to the NCAF team for conducting the activity, “Salamat (Thank you) for pushing through with it despite of [some difficulties]. The initial feedback I received from the students was them asking me, ‘Kailan po ang susunod?’ (When is the next concert?)”.

Several graduates of the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, residing in Zamboanga, also participated in the event. Kevin Roy Jimera, a Journey Companion from Batch 5, shared how happy they are to see the NCAF Team visit Zamboanga, “Mula nung nangyari ang gulo rito, kaunti na lang ang gustong pumunta sa Zamboanga. Pero kayo, hindi lang kayo bumisita, nagconcert pa kayo rito. Malaking bagay ang pagdalaw nyo rito sa amin” (When the siege happened, only a few would want to visit Zamboanga. You did not only visit us but you conducted a concert for us. Your visit means a lot to us.).

My Journey Goes On is produced by NCAF President and Executive Director Mr. Rafael C. Lopa and NCAF Board of Trustee Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ, the popular Jesuit composer, and arranged by Mr. John Paulo Reyes of the Bukas Palad Music Ministry. The album features the NCAF Music Ministry and some Journey companions who are graduates of the NCA Leadership Journey Program.

The songs and reflection points, both featured prominently during the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, the core youth formation program of the Foundation, are arranged around sound bites from speeches of former Sen. Ninoy and Pres. Cory Aquino themselves on their experiences as leaders.

You may get a copy of the album, My Journey Goes On, for a minimum donation of PhP 250.00. Proceeds will go the fundraising efforts of Tanging Yaman Foundation for the survivors of Supertyphoon Yolanda.
