First Batch of Visayas Young Leaders Commit to Leadership and Service

The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Center for Leadership (NCACL), the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) and the Ang-Hortaleza Foundation welcomed its eleventh batch of young Filipino leaders into the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey Community.

Thirty-one youth leaders from Visayas participated in the eleventh run of the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey held last June 28-30, 2013 in Cebu City.

“It’s truly a blessing to have been able to bring the NCA Leadership Journey to Cebu City for the first time,” said Rafael C. Lopa, NCAF President and Executive Director. “With this batch, we’re that much closer to spreading the Filipino model of leadership as exemplified by Sen. Ninoy and Pres. Cory across the country.”

The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, touted as one of the more transformative programs for the youth in the country, is a partnership among the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Center for Leadership (NCACL), the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), the Ang-Hortaleza Foundation, White Knight Hotel Intramuros, and Cebu Pacific Air.

“We would also like to extend our gratitude to our friends: Mrs. Nonie Uy, Mr. Frederick Ong, and Vic Enterprises, who, together with Mr. Gabby Cruz, supported in making this possible here in Visayas,” Mr. Lopa added.

Using Ninoy and Cory Aquino as role models, the program seeks to reintroduce spirituality as a major foundation for Filipino leadership. Harnessing their innate values systems, the participants take part in a process of self-reflection that will ultimately lead to self-transformation and self-commitment for others and country.

“Just when I was beginning to look at God as an impersonal, invisible being, the Journey came just in time to remind me of God’s loving presence in my life and that God has always been there as a parent, a sibling, and a friend at the same time,” shared Raoul Manuel, a Batch 11 Companion. “After the weekend, the question I now frequently ask myself is “If I accept this responsibility or perform this task, will it serve you, my God?”.”

“All my questions were answered in different ways. I really learned to appreciate everything in my life,” Christy Kim Velez, another Batch 11 Companion, shared.  “I’m really looking forward to being part of one of the Journeys soon to inspire more people.”
