Eighth Batch of Young People Commit to Leadership and Service

The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) welcomed its eighth batch of young Filipino leaders into the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey Community.

Rizal, Philippines – Thirty-one Filipino youth leaders participated in the eighth run of the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey held last November 16-18, 2012 at the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres Vigil House in Taytay, Rizal.

“We are humbled that after its second year of implementation, our Journey community has expanded to include over two hundred servant-leaders,” said Rafael C. Lopa, NCAF President and Executive Director. “After our largest batch to date, we are thirty-one young Filipinos closer to seeing new generation of leaders continue Ninoy and Cory Aquino’s legacy of leadership rooted in love and service for God and country.”

The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, touted as one of the more transformative programs for the youth in the country, is a partnership among the Ninoy & Cory Aquino Center for Leadership (NCACL), the Ang-Hortaleza Foundation, De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, White Knight Hotel Intramuros, and Cebu Pacific Air.

Using Ninoy and Cory Aquino as role models, the program seeks to reintroduce spirituality as a major foundation for Filipino leadership. Harnessing their innate values systems, the participants take part in a process of self-reflection that will ultimately lead to self-transformation and self-commitment for others and country.

“It makes a ton of difference to see yourself in a different light for a whole weekend,” Kurt Cendana, a Batch 8 graduate working in the Department of Education shared.  “The mere fact that you have reviewed where you have gone, where you are now, and where you want to be — while thinking that everything is a product of Love and Grace — is definitely a Journey worth going through and holding on to.”

“The journey helped me a lot,” Krystel Calderon, Batch 8 graduate from Mindanao State University, said. “I had the time to cry and let my emotions out… And along with my journey batch mates, I know we now belong to a more hopeful community.”

“We’re very thankful for our partnership with the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde for Batch 8, the fifth national run of the Journey program, as well as the continued support of White Knight and Cebu Pacific,” said Mr. Lopa. “We look forward to another year of guiding even more young Filipinos in their lives of service, mission, and love.”
